Mt. Zion Show Choir

MOUNT ZION- Show Choir booster parents are working to prepare for the 34th Annual Midwest Show Choir Invitational at the new auditorium at the Mt Zion High School. The public is invited to attend the event being held Friday evening January 15th and all day Saturday January 16th. The event will showcase Junior High and High School groups from throughout Central Illinois, Indiana and from as far away as West Virginia. On Friday January 15th there will be 6 Junior High groups competing starting at 6:10 with an exhibition performance by the Mt Zion “6th Grade Electric Youth”. The competition will then begin with the Sullivan “6th Grade Singers” at 6:35 pm. Other schools competing on Friday evening include the El Paso Gridley “Crescendo” and “Dynamics”, The Thomas Jefferson “Music Machine”, Johns Hill “Xperience!”, Sullivan “Singers Jr.” and North Ridge “Redcoats”. The Mt Zion Junior High group “Sound System” will then perform an exhibition show prior to Junior High Awards starting at 10 pm. On Saturday January 16th competition moves to the High School groups with 9 mixed and 4 unisex choirs from throughout Illinois and out of state. The competition starts early with the Danville Unisex group “Contemporaries” at 9 am. Other unisex groups include Crete Monee “Faces”, Waubonsie Valley “Girls in Heels” and from Indiana the Northrop High School “Allure”. Awards for the Unisex groups will be held at 5:15 Saturday January 16th after exhibition performances from the Mt Zion Unisex group “Les Femmes” and the Mt Zion High School “Barbershop Quartet”. The High School mixed choirs will begin competition after a lunch break with the Decatur High School “Elite Energy” at 12 Noon. Other mixed groups include first time visitors from West Virginia, Ravenswood High School “Rave Revue”, Sullivan High School “Sullivan Singers”, Waubonsie Valley “Sound Check”, Crete Monee “Cavaliers”, Wheaton North “Flight”, Danville High School “Delegation”, from Indiana the Northrop High School “Charisma” and the Glenwood High School “Titan Fever” Friday admission tickets are $10 for Adults, $8 for Students (18 and under) and Senior Citizens. Children 5 and under are free. Saturday admission tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students (student ID may be requested) and Senior Citizens. Children 5 and under are free. For admission to the Saturday Finals only, $10 for Adults, Students and Senior Citizens. New this year is a 2-Day pass $20 for Adults and $15 for Students and Senior Citizens. A menu, full of variety and delicious foods and beverages will be served throughout the competition from 4 pm – 10 pm Friday and on Saturday from 7 am – 10 pm in the high school cafetorium.
