Black Gospel Youth Choir songs

– The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center presents An Evening of Praise: Our Story through Song, a gospel concert with an impressive 150 voice youth choir in honor of Black History Month, on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Mt. Hermon A.M.E Church, 17800 Northwest 25th Avenue in Miami Gardens. Showtime is 6:00 PM and tickets are $20.00. An Evening of Praise: Our Story through Song explores the inextricable link between gospel music and the black life experience – from the African shores to the present – and reveals how music and the church play an integral part in shaping Black History in America. Under the direction of the Center’s musical director, Isis Roberts, the concert features Voices of Heritage, the resident youth choir of the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center as well as prominent alumni of Voices of Heritage, and special guests from the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E) Southern Conference Youth Choir, and the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) Florida Eastern Youth Choir. These outstanding collective choirs and talented gospel vocalists from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties will collaborate to create a powerful 150 voice choir that unifies both counties through song.

An Evening of Praise: Our Story through Song is a part of “Sankofa: Looking Back, Going Forward, ” a year-long series of events and performances that bring alumni back to the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center to inspire the next generation of talent, in celebration of the Center’s fortieth anniversary with funding support from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its Knight Arts Challenge.

The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, part of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, was founded in 1975 to serve as the nesting ground for emerging talent in the performing and visual arts in the heart of Liberty City. By providing quality instruction, inspiration and encouragement to young people within the community, the Center has fulfilled its mission for almost 40 years, and everyday creates a means for youth to discover their artistic talents.

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council develop cultural excellence, diversity and participation throughout Miami-Dade County by strategically creating and promoting opportunities for artists and cultural organizations, and our residents and visitors who are their audiences.
