Songs Along the Road and Time
The eagerly anticipated CD featuring music from Curt Faudon's motion picture "Silk Road - Songs Along the
Road and Time" has been released. The unusual collection of songs takes the listener on musical journey through
the Choir's history and through its repertoire - in Dolby Surround sound.
The boys sing Renaissance chansons, motets by Josquin Desprez and Antonio Caldara, and excerpts from Vivaldi's Gloria.
At the other end of the spectrum, there is a Finnish polka "just for fun" and two songs from Schubert's Winterreise.
There are unusual offerings from the Silk Road, a Pakistani qawwali, a rain dance from Uzbekistan, a bhajan from India, and
field hollers from Tajikistan, as well as a number of Chinese songs performed with Chinese artists.
A particular highlight is Yulduz Usmanova's melancholy hit "Shoch va gado", with its moving text admonishing people to
be nice to each other while they are "guests on this earth". The Uzbek superstar met the boys in Carinthia to rehearse and
record the song with them. The boys were particularly taken with Yulduz' stunning vocal improvisation. Says Tilman, 13, "I
